Stream authentic shows
Stream authentic shows originally written and created in Spanish. There are many shows to choose from so I compiled a list of a few that are regularly used in the classroom and have lessons built around them. Parents, I leave it to your discretion to decide what is appropriate for the age of your child. Common Sense Media has some good reviews. I would also encourage you to make a Movie Night of it and watch the shows with your child. You can also access episode comprehension questions and vocabulary on Quizlet, Quizziz, Kahoot, and TPT. In addition, there are some cultural movies you can watch and they are listed at the bottom of the page.
Soy Luna (Disney+)
It is s a Mexican-Argentine telenovela produced by Disney Channel Latin America. Luna lives with her family in Cancun, where she has a group of friends at school. However, her life changes when her parents receive an offer of work and must move to Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Nailed It! Mexico (Netflix)
The "Nailed It!" culinary franchise heads south of the border with this entry that sees home bakers in Mexico try to re-create edible masterpieces. As with the other "Nailed It!" shows, the contestants don't have a strong track record in the kitchen so it'll take all of their baking skills -- and, hopefully, more -- in order to get a chance to win the competition and the $10.000 prize that is awarded to each episode's victor. Actor Omar Chaparro hosts the Spanish-language series, which features renowned baker Anna Ruiz as its head judge.
Go! Vive a Tu Manera (Netflix)
The show is an Argentinian musical soap opera about the trials and tribulations of a group of musically talented teenagers and their friends. Mía Cáceres is an extremely talented young woman who lives with her protective aunt.
The series El Cuarto Misterioso is a
new video series in Spanish. It has activities which can be found online. This exciting mystery thriller unfolds in the first episode, and will leave the students eagerly waiting for more! It’s a continuous, teen soap opera storyline which captivates students’ interests and leaves them eagerly awaiting the next episode. Twenty spellbinding episodes develop interesting characters and relationships. Each episode begins with a short synopsis of previous events.

Meet Lola and Ana, two Spanish roommates who are surprised one day by the appearance at their doorstep of an eccentric American, Sam, an acquaintance from Lola's past who is hiding an intriguing secret. The show is a Spanish video series for language learners. The series features entertaining stories told in short episodes.
Destinos, is a television program created by Bill VanPatten, who at the time was Professor of Spanish and Second Language Acquisition at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. Its 52 episodes are often used for educational purposes in schools, and are available online from the Annenberg Learner site and some local PBS stations. Destinos recounts the story of Los Angeles-based lawyer Raquel Rodríguez who is hired by the family of Fernando Castillo . He had discovered that his first wife, Rosario, did not die in the Spanish Civil War as he had believed, but had survived and had an unknown child. In the course of her investigation of the case, Raquel travels to a number of Spanish-speaking areas — Seville and Madrid, Spain; Buenos Aires, Argentina; San Juan and San Germán, Puerto Rico; and Mexico — has a number of adventures and mishaps, meets a love interest and faces a number of melodramatic conflicts.
Violetta is a lonely but exceptionally talented teenager who returns to her hometown of Buenos Aires after living many years on the “old continent”. Back home, she will visit Studio 21, a space full of art and music, and will become a frequent visitor. However, she’ll have to hide this routine from her father, who fears that his daughter will follow in the footsteps of her late mother, a famous singer. A14 episode edutainment telenovela which focuses on Jamie Gonzalez, a 17-year-old Hispanic-American girl who is studying in Queretaro, Mexico, on a scholarship for the summer. The series begins with Jamie telling the audience about herself and her family, including her bisabuela (great-grandmother), Doña Josefa de Gonzalez, La Catrina, whom she wishes to learn more about while in Mexico. Once she and her friend, Philip Armstrong, arrive in Queretaro, however, they find that her host family, the Navarros, have a teenage son, Carlos. Because his parents want to avoid a scandal, Jamie will instead live with the family of Carlos' friend, Maria Linares, who is the same age as Carlos, Jamie and Felipe.
It is summertime and very hot in Madrid. Lola Lago goes out onto the balcony of her home to water the plants and notices a couple arguing. The woman runs off, and the man goes into the doorway of house number 10. The following day, Lola finds out that Doña Lupe, who lives in that building, was attacked and robbed the night before.

Canela
A determined girl embarks on a mission to save her grandmother's traditional Mexican restaurant. El Molcajete, a traditional Mexican food restaurant, downtown Mexico City, is owned by Maria's grandmother, Tere, but run by chef Rosi. After her daughter's death, Tere lost her passion for cooking and stopped working at El Molcajete. Therefore, Maria does everything to make her go back to the restaurant. Meanwhile, chef Rosi has introduced new dishes to the menu, trying to make it a light trendy cuisine.
